STRENGTHS
1. Communication
- A strong point of mine, made evident by my mentors reflections, is that I am able to create a welcoming, and approachable atmosphere through communication.
Communication is a vital component in any work setting, but especially when we have children in our care. For the children's safety and well-being we need to communicate and share information in an approachable friendly environment. If I child appears out of character, though communicating with their guardians we will be aware of any issues which may effect their well-being occurring outside of the education setting, and though communicating with staff we are all understanding of any circumstances to cater for the child's needs. In an early learning setting, if a child requires medication, it is vital that this information can be shared easily and confidently amongst staff so that the child does not miss out on getting their medicine, or worse off, being given their medicine twice.
Through taking the time to talk to the parents and guardians of the children, they feel comfortable to approach myself and ask any questions.
When I have a placement I always include on my introductory letter on display that I am more than happy to talk to the families and answer any questions they may have. During my previous practicum, although I was only there for two weeks, I had numerous parents from the varying groups approach me about my pedagogy, what my course entails, where I want to work, as we also discussed their child;s interests and strong points which I had observed. I enjoyed sharing with the parents what I had observed about their child and shown interests, as they share insight into their life and interests at home.
Communication amongst staff is vital in an Early Learning setting when there are multiple workers in a single room, but these skills are just ass vital in a primary setting. In a Primary setting all parents/guardian are not seen at drop-off and pick-up everyday, but it is still vital to make that effort so that we can better understand our students interests and needs. In some cases boundaries may need to be set, but these can be resolved through communication.
Through communicating with staff we create a positive healthy environment, and a better working atmosphere. Through communicating with staff we are able to share ideas to provide varied teaching approaches and material to children..
2. Integrating the Curriculum
I thoroughly enjoy putting meaning and purpose into learning activities and seeing the children make those connections themselves. It extends their learning and their thinking while promoting life long learning.
From the early years through to the final stages of Primary education and beyond, I strongly believe in incorporating varied learning experiences through incorporating the arts.
Creative arts is another means of communicating and making meaning. it is another avenue for children to express their thoughts and feelings.
during practicums I had observed classes that were given many written tasks., There were particular children who were completely disengaged and uninterested. after adding an artistic twist to the written task I notice the disengaged students had gained new insight and were completing their work before the students who excelled in the written tasks, were usually it was vice versa. not only.
An example when I achieved this was simple and efficient, and made a huge difference in the outcome, by simply allowing children to scrunch their Anzac Day letters and apply tea to make them look old worldly, and writing Anzac Day poems on the petals of Poppy Flowers which the children had made.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH
1. Understanding and supporting children with additional needs
There are so many variations and classifies of additional needs in their varying strains. I feel I would benefit greatly by furthering my research to learn more about the different areas.
There are so many, that obviously they could not all be researched in depth during my education course, but it is an area I would like to further explore for the benefits of my teaching capabilities..
It is more than likely that in every class there will be at least one student that needs extra guidance and support, or has a developmental or other additional difference which acquires extra attention. To best cater for these students in an inclusive setting we need to be able to recognise theses differences and cater accordingly.
This aspect leads from communication skills which would be required to discuss and negotiate goals and improvement plans with parent/guardians and other educators to best meet the individuals needs.
2. Become more technologically savvy.
We are teaching the digital native generation, therefore I believe it is mandatory to keep up to date with technology in order to relate to and understand the children. This is an area where I feel I could improve. Also there are many posibilities for varied learning styles when inorporating technology such as the Digital White Board, iPads, associated educational applications and supportive planning web based documentation.

STRATEGIES
1. Further Developing skills to incorporate new and advanced technologies.
This can be achieved by attending PD's, talking with others who can assist, visiting the library and furthering my own research to discover multimodel technologies that are able to enhance learning opportunities.
I can further develop and organise my Evernote account, providing resources at my fingertips, and further playing and learning how to use Edmodo, a Facebook like account developed for educational purposes.
When you know how to use theses technologies the possibilities are endless with programs that aid recording and planning, enabling you to use your time for efficiently and effectively.
2. Attend Professional Development courses to continue learning
I look forward to extending my learning to improve my skills as an educator to best meet the needs of the children of today. One way to do so is by attending Professional Development courses.(PD's). Through PD's I would like to learn more about supporting and including children with additional needs, classroom behaviour management ideas and incorporating new technologies.
When I have a class, it will be important to relfect on my practice and to think of areas that need improvement. this may also vary depending upon the children in your class.
